Consider a community in which teenage girls are married off by their poor parents to men old enough to be their grand fathers; where young girls are encouraged by their own mums to work as prostitutes in order to put food on the plate for the rest of the family; where young women willingly enter relationships with HIV positive men, just because they are rich. Consider also that these girls have boyfriends of their age that they genuinely love and with whom they have steady sexual relationships. Consider that their boys also have multiple partners and take pride in the number of partners they might have at the same time, and, finally, consider that some of the men, girls and boys are HIV positive but remain sexually active and neither care to disclose their status nor to use protection. How much will the virus spread in such a community?

This is the question that the writer seeks to answer in this gripping, cunningly constructed novel of closely linked stories set in Uganda, East Africa, which once you've started reading you won’t be able stop…

CROSS POLLINATION edition by OSCAR RANZO Literature Fiction eBooks

This book is a rare opportunity to journey into a world that most people never access. If you are a traveller coming to Uganda or are interested in HIV/AIDS, this book is a must-read. Through a series of thoughtful and interwoven stories, the readers eyes are opened to the complex social and sexual relationships within Uganda. From cross-cultural relationships to child marriage, domestic abuse, prostitution, rape and illegal abortion, there are no topics off limits in this carefully crafted book. Despite the heavy topics, the successful development of strong and relatable characters and the many different manifestations of love make this book a compelling read. This is a fabulous first book by Oscar Ranzo and I can't wait to see his development as a writer.

This novel had the intentions of being a good read, but the author was too wordy with a lot of scenes in this novel. The plot was drawn out to a point it started to disinterest me as a reader. It had some editing issues. However I do think this author has potential but just need to control over wording .
I found this book to be refreshing and mesmerising, whilst simultaneously disturbing and thought-provoking; I couldn't put the book down. Ranzo allows us, the readers, the rare opportunity to understand some emotionally charged and challenging relationship scenarios in Uganda, Africa.

As a book unlike any other that I have read before, I recommend Ranzo's piece to those who are in need of reading something unique which has real substance. I congratulate Ranzo on his debut with 'Cross Pollination'.
This book allows the reader to live for a short time the good and the bad in the life of ugandans. This book helped me understand some of my culture clashes I lived in Uganda, the ugandan feel about HIV, friendship and life in general.

Some passages are raw and full of emotions (beware faint of heart).

This author has a promising career ahead, I am looking forward to his next books !
